An American miner working in an English coalmine dies under the most bizarre circumstances. A few nights later in West Virginia his six-year-old daughter Rebecca is found cocooned in spider webs that fill her entire bedroom. Rebecca''s mother is barely able to extract her daughter alive. When Rebecca awakes in the morning her mother is nowhere to be found. Fearing a kidnapping FBI agent Carl White takes a close look at the home of the vanished woman. What he finds makes a strange case even more mysterious. White is in for a macabre adventure as he tracks an unlikely theory to England Sweden and eventually Borneo. In Sweden White combines his professional and personal efforts with those of the stunning Secret Service Agent Michiko. As the truth finally pierces the many layers of improbable findings a seemingly innocent player emerges at the center of a plot too alien to grasp. White and Michiko are caught in the flow of unstoppable events becoming cogs in a radically altering machine from which there is no escape.
