Nasal Polyps and Their Association with Cardiac Markers

About The Book

Nasal polyps (NP) are a chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa; their etiology is suspected to involve oxidative stress. Growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) are biomarkers used especially in the early diagnosis and follow-up of cardiovascular diseases. These markers are known to increase in oxidative stress conditions that result from some cardiovascular pathologies. Oxidative stress is also assumed to play role in pathogenesis of nasal polyps. In this book I discuss the results of studies that investigated levels of cardiac markers in patients with nasal polyp. Starting from this point of view I also mention other factors playing role in pathogenesis of nasal polyps.
