National Security Lecture - National Security Challenges for India in the Next Decade By Admiral Sureesh Mehta Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee & CNS National Security Seminar - Conflicts in the North East (Based on Seminar Conducted at USI) The aim of the National Security Series conducted by United Service Institution is to bring into focus contemporary issues that have an overarching bearing on national security. This is the Eleventh volume of the Annual Security Series. The Annual Security Lecture 2008 dealt with National Security Challenges for India in the Next Decade. It was delivered by Admiral Sureesh Mehta PVSM AVSM ADC Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of the Naval Staff. The theme of the National Security Seminar 2008 was: Conflicts in the North East. It covered: an overview of the insurgencies in the North East; external linkages demographic changes geopolitical developments in the neighbourhood and their impact; and the need to achieve politico military synergy and importance of the North East in pursuit of Indias Look East Policy. It was a very wide canvas and included wide ranging issues. The panelists and the participants included many personalities who had first hand experiences of the situation in the North East from the very top level (governor/army/corps commanders) down to company commanders and officers from civil administration as well as Central Police.
