This helpful book contains copies of all the returns of naturalizations of foreign Protestants sent from the Colonies to the Lords Commissioners for Trade and Plantations during the period 1740 to 1772. It refers to some 6500 persons--mostly Germans--who were naturalized in accordance with an act of 1740. The returns are from the colonies of South Carolina North Carolina Virginia Maryland New York and Pennsylvania and from Jamaica in the West Indies with those from Pennsylvania predominating. The entries generally include name religion town and county of residence and date of naturalization.
