Neuroimaging in benign multiple sclerosis and its relationship with cognition

About The Book

Multiple sclerosis is referred to as a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. The evolutionary course of MS is heterogeneous with different levels of progression and clinical overlaps. Among the non-motor symptoms cognitive impairment is increasingly recognised as a manifestation of MS and can occur relatively early in the course of the disease. The actual existence of a benign form of MS is a controversial subject and its exact definition has been subject to change. Currently there are no prognostic markers that can predict the benign evolution of MS. However the use of radiological markers associated with a long-lasting benign course of MS could lead to a more reliable definition of its benign course.
