New Caledonia Real Estate Company

About The Book

This work traces the history of the first sixty years of the mixed company in charge of social housing in New Caledonia. The Société Immobilière de la Nouvelle-Calédonie (SICNC) was created in 1956 under the name Crédit de la Nouvelle-Calédonie. Crédit de la Nouvelle-Calédonie sets itself three objectives: housing assistance production assistance and social assistance. In 1963 it became the Société Immobilière et de Crédit de la Nouvelle-Calédonie (SICNC). In 1988 the credit branch became BCI and the real estate part became Société Immobilière de Nouvelle-Calédonie (SIC). It is assigned two objectives: to improve the living conditions of the 10000 Caledonians housed in the existing housing stock and to build new housing while promoting social diversity. The SIC advocates “deco-housing” and the transfer of residents from “squats” to highly subsidized social housing. In 2016 the SIC celebrates its sixtieth anniversary and continues its policy of construction and management of an impressive social housing stock. The objective remains decent housing for all families in difficulty both in greater Nouméa and on customary lands.
