During the military period of the Republic of China there were constant wars and turmoil and some officers held great power. Wang Quanhai the garrison commander Sun and Xue Youpan the commander-in-chief took advantage of the situation and did whatever they wanted. Everyone was afraid and indulged in debauchery. Liu Desheng was initially a flower farmer and later served as a third class soldier under Xue Youpan's automobile team. He was promoted for his excellent performance in cross-talk and later participated in wars to pacify bandits. He was promoted from regimental commander and brigade commander to division commander. Unexpectedly Liu Desheng suffered a defeat in the war and his former superiors who had promoted him all fled to the field. Liu Desheng took his savings of 700000 to 800000 and fled to Beijing hoping to stay away from the war. He married the actor Wu Yueqing but was deceived by her.
