The Puerto Rican legal system is composed of an amalgam of institutions and legal precepts of civilist tradition that are articulated through American federalism. For its part the high cost of prison confinement criminal recidivism and lack of confidence in the administration of justice are issues that arise in the public discussion that merit the search for viable alternatives. With this investigation we address various aspects of substantive criminal law in order to establish the basis for implementing the figure of the judge for prison supervision or another form of judicial control in Puerto Rico during the sentence execution phase.
