The current challenges in the economy and especially in the bricks-and-mortar retail sector are putting companies under increasing pressure. The crises of recent years and the associated changes in the world of work are placing a heavy burden on the retail sector. Such a challenging economic environment presents companies with the task of responding appropriately in order to remain successful. Theaim of this thesis was to take a closer look at the concepts of New Work and New Leadership and to describe the current demands on companies by means of an empirical study. Practicable solutions for overcoming the challenges were developed. The concepts of New Work and New Leadership stand for a new culture of cooperation in companies. The focus of planning is on people as a resource. The aim is to create a positive working environment for employees with the help of both concepts. Flexibility autonomy and meaningful employment are the keywords of this approach.
