Nicolai Klimii Iter Subterraneum Novam Telluris Theoriam also known as Journey to the Center of the Earth is a classic work of science fiction written by the Danish author Ludvig Holberg under the pseudonym Klimius Nicolaus in 1741. The book follows the journey of a young Norwegian man named Nicolai Klim who falls into a hole in the ground while exploring the Arctic region. He finds himself in a strange underground world with its own sun moon and stars and inhabited by bizarre creatures and societies. As he travels deeper into this subterranean world Nicolai Klim discovers new scientific theories and philosophies that challenge his understanding of the universe. He encounters societies of giants pygmies and bird-men and even visits the center of the Earth where he finds a paradise-like land. The book is a satirical take on the scientific and philosophical ideas of the time and explores themes of human nature societal structure and the search for knowledge. It is considered to be one of the earliest examples of science fiction and has influenced many later works in the genre. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
