Beneath the Solonche simplicity are significant social comments and his goodwill reinforces the best in us. -Grace Cavalieri</span></p><p></p><p>SAMPLE POEM:</p><p>Deaf Child Area</p><p></p><p>I have driven the road</p><p>many times but have</p><p>never seen the deaf child</p><p>not in the driveway not in </p><p>the yard not in the window.</p><p>But the sign has been there</p><p>a long time so the child</p><p>may no longer be around.</p><p>I'd like to think just that.</p><p>I'd like to think the deaf</p><p>child grew up went to</p><p>college married moved</p><p>away to start a life. I'd like </p><p>to think the parents now </p><p>old and alone in the house </p><p>left the sign there to say to </p><p>us drivers passing by Slow </p><p>down. Open the window. </p><p>Open your ears. Hear the </p><p>birds. Hear the horses. Hear </p><p>the wind. Hear the laughter</p><p>of the years.</p>
