Non Edible Vegetable Oils as Alternative Lubricant : A Tribological Study Vegetable Oils are perceived to be the best alternatives against the conventional mineral oil based lubricants to safe guard the environmental concerns and scarcity of crude petroleum. The present tribological study is an attempt to explore the feasibility of non edible vegetable oils as an alternative lubricant in automotive gear applications. Results of extensive tribological investigations as per standard test methods carried out indicate that proposed castor oil based lubricant have enormous potential for being used in automotive gear box applications without posing any threat to health and safety standards of living beings and environment.
