On their return my friends invariably wrote to tell me of their doings and thus I have had an almost unique opportunity of noting the growth of the sport of mountaineering in the country and of realising that it is now established on a firm and an enduring basis and that Norway has become recognised amongst mountaineers all the world over as one of our great playgrounds.<br><br>Many have asked me to write a book on general climbing in the country; at last I yielded to the temptation the result of which is embodied in this volume. Some friends wished me to keep well above the snow-line and to leave the fjords alone.
