About The Book

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is famous as Twain’s greatest achievements. It was first released in Britain in December 1884 and in the USA in February 1885. The story is about Huck Finn a character already developed by Twain in his earlier novel ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’. The novel explores issues related to the racism and morality. Huckleberry Finn is the main character who America of those times. Twain frequently uses the word “nigger” to refer to the black slaves. The novel opens with Huck telling his story about his experiences since ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ which preceded this novel. Both the novels are set in the town of St. Petersburg Missouri which lies on the banks of the Mississippi River. We meet Huckleberry Finn after he has been taken in by Widow Douglas and her spinster sister Miss Watson who intend to teach him religion and proper manners. Huck soon sets off on an adventure to help the widow’s slave Jim escape through the Mississippi River to the free states. The books give a colourful description of people and places along the Mississippi River.
