OBESITY

The rising rate of obesity is a major public health concern in the world.During pregnancy obesity have been associated with significant morbidity and mortality of both mother and fetus.A strong relationship between maternal prepregnancy BMI weight gain and birth weight has been demonstrated consistently.Several studies have reported a clear association between maternal overweight and adverse perinatal outcome.This piece of work is a prospective study to demonstrate the effect of maternal pre-pregnancy BMI & antenatal weight gain on fetomaternal outcome.The results found in this study emphasizes the importance of good timely care of pregnant women whether they are underweight normal weight or over weight.
