About The Book

Obstetric violence is characterized by the imposition of harmful interventions to the physical psychological and/or sexual integrity of pregnant women who are or have just given birth affected by health professionals as well as by institutions whether public or private. This article aims to analyze obstetric violence and how this practice has been growing in the world turning the happy and special moment of a mother into a traumatic moment. In this perspective it aims at first a historical and social explanation of how the woman was inserted in hospitals the conceptual construction and forms of manifestations of this type of violence from the perspective of gender violence and women''s rights pointing out on the material right violated in constitutional provisions the protective guarantees of parturient women and their newborns as well as the protected rights affected by obstetric violence such as human dignity.
