Oedipus Rex and Antigone

The first performance of Sophocles' Attic play Oedipus Rex also known by its Greek title Oedipus Tyrannus or Oedipus the King took place around 429 BC. As stated by Aristotle in the Poetics the title was originally known to the ancient Greeks merely as Oedipus.Sophocles' play Antigone an Athens tragedy was first presented at the Festival of Dionysus in 441 BC. It is believed to be Sophocles' second-oldest surviving drama after Ajax which was written around the same time.
