Oh my goodness

In this book I do not wish to categorise men but rather to provide an overview of different 'images of men'. Encountering men means encountering a diversity of male personalities - there is not just 'the man' but countless masculinities. In a (male) world dominated by hierarchical structures and expertise the relationships offered by the person-centred approach give men the opportunity to experience encounters in a new way. Encounter here means 'a direct personal encounter on a person-to-person level a sincere relationship between two imperfect human beings' (C. Rogers 1980). The relationship as a togetherness and facing each other exchange and confrontation are the essence of therapy. A dialogue determined by person-centred attitudes gives men the opportunity within the framework of a therapeutic relationship to encounter their 'images of masculinity' and myths and to emancipate themselves from them i.e. to free themselves.
