The idea of book is to show how is design a steel structure by old-fashion way.
The book contains many calculations which is not easy to understand especially if your are not civil/structural engineer.
An old-fashioned way to design a beam-truss steel structure involves using the method of joints or the method of sections to analyze member forces where trusses are assumed to be pin-connected and loads are applied only at the joints. This is followed by manually calculating the nominal resistance of each member and checking connections against static equilibrium considering the dead loads and required live loads. The design was then completed by checking member strength and connection strength.
The designed structure has a remarkable result expressed in 45 kg/m2 of steel (material) consumption compared to the standard material consumption for this type of structure which is 80 kg/m2.
