About The Book

Oliver Twist is Charles Dickens’ second novel and it was published in 1838. The story centers on an orphan Oliver Twist born in a workhouse and sold into apprenticeship with an undertaker. After escape from the undertaker Twist travels to London where he meets the Artful Dodger a member of gang of juvenile pickpockets led by an elderly criminal Fagin. Oliver Twist is notable for unromantic portrayal by Dickens of criminals and their sordid lives as well as exposing the cruel treatment of many orphans in London in mid-19th century.
