On the Taxonomy and Distribution of the subfamily Vespinae

This work contains a taxonomic review of the yellowjackets and hornets worldwide full synonym list of each species and a complete distributional range for each species. Fossil taxa and unrecognized taxa are also included. This work updates the checklist of the Vespinae of the world written in 1997 by James M. Carpenter of the American Museum of Natural History U.S.A. and Junichi Kojima of the Ibaraki University Japan. Their checklist iscluded a full list of synonyms and complete distributional records as well as a taxonomic summary and notes on types. The designation of Vespa crabro as the type species of Vespa was also made. This book is an updated version of that checklist with new synonomies and distributional records. A new synonym is made in this work as well.
