ON WINGS OF HEALINGThe Story of the Airborne Medical Services 1940-1960

About The Book

With the development during the Second World War of glider-and parachute borne troops as a separate arm of the regular Army the need was recognised for and Airbourne Medical Service to fly jump and land with the front-line soldiers. This book describes how the Service was formed in 1941 - largely due to the foresight and energy of its Senior Medical Officer Brigadier A.Austin Eagger - and of the subsequent campaigns in which it took part. These include: North Africa Italy Greece Normandy Arnhem and the Rhine. Originally published in 1963 and now re-issued by the Naval & Military Press this is a fine and inspiring record of service and sacrifice in the field.
