He was as tough as the cattle he raised in a very unforgiving South Texas environment. The stories told about him paint a portrait of a very colorful man whose flaws were even filled with character. </span></p><p><span style=color: rgba(0 0 0 1)>The author Joe Sugarek is a fifth generation Texan whose ancestors settled in South Texas in the mid-1800's. His maternal second great-grandparents Reuben and Sarah Holbein emigrated from England and were instrumental in the settling of  Corpus Christi and the Wild Horse Desert.
