It was 1933 and the Great Depression had taken hold but the young writer Ruthven Colquhoun McNairn was having an adventurous year and documenting it beautifully in his diaries. He had recently returned from a four-month journey from his home in Hamilton Ontario to Chicago Denver and Colorado Springs where he then hitchhiked Route 66 to Los Angeles before returning to Chicago for the opening of the Worlds Fair. Soon after he retuned home to Hamilton however he became restless and began planning a one-month expedition into Algonquin Park. This is his diary from that trip with an introduction and footnotes throughout providing an amazing window into canoe tripping and Algonquin Park history from almost 100 years ago.
