His best friend the Mouth convinces him to start from the beginning-to retrace the steps that led to his elevation as the supreme leader of a new society in the nation's heartland. In so doing he remembers being rejected by the capital squatting in an abandoned factory and shivering through a winter of privation. He remembers sowing barren ground watching the community grow and harvesting a supply of seemingly infinite free money.
