Open Book Examination in Different Teaching Learning Environment

The purpose of school education is to enable children to develop their maximum potential. But unfortunately it is not realized as the present system is more inclined towards spoon feeding rote memory and passing examinations. Instead of having a child centered education it is moving towards an examination centered education system. Open Book Environment (OBEn) is a model for authentic learning assessment that can motivate learners to construct knowledge. It is a system where children would be given more freedom to think following inter and intra-group dialogue through cognitive questions. It was developed and implemented with features like Teachers Training Content Presentation through Technology Collaborative Learning Activities through cognitive questions Inter-group Sharing and Concept Mapping. Major findings of the study revealed that in both Open Book Testing and Close Book Testing OBEn was found significantly better than traditional environment in enhancing scores in most of the components of most of the subjects. OBEn helped students to write answers in a better way with divergent ideas.This book can be useful for researchers teachers policy makers and planners.
