Open eye injuries are a major public health issue due to their functional psychological and social repercussions which can significantly impair quality of life (QoL). The aim of our work was to describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of the patients affected and to assess the impact of these traumas on their QOL and mental health. We conducted a prospective study including 20 patients managed in the ophthalmology department of the Tunis Military Hospital between January 2020 and March 2023. Data were collected by interview clinical examination and administration of the NEI VFQ-25 questionnaire. The mean age was 34.2 years with male predominance; work-related accidents were the main etiology. The wound was corneal in 65% of cases and final visual acuity <1/10 in 70%. The mean NEI VFQ-25 global score was 63.28/100 with more marked impairment of mental health global and peripheral vision. Posterior segment involvement and poor final visual acuity were associated with poorer HRQ.
