<p>In September 1946 it was reported that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was seen in the North West Frontier Province. Pandit Nehru rushed to the Frontier on his 'fact-finding and goodwill mission' for the tribals. He sent V. K. Krishna Menon on a special and secret mission to meet one of Stalin's closest allies and Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs V. M. Molotov.</p><p>Next year surprisingly the former I.N.A. Commanders led a Frontier tribal attack on Kashmir. Pandit Nehru was clueless fearing a third alternative was evolving. Maharaja Hari Singh had sought help and soon Kashmir acceded to India.
