Notwithstanding its transcription oral literature considered by some to be popular literature is literature that is spoken or sung as opposed to so-called written literature. In fact oral literature is a treasure of humanity that can be approached in three dimensions. First it is divided into genres which without being watertight have particular intentions orientations and functions. These can be found at different levels in different civilizations. Then the cultural reality of oral literature insofar as despite the dimensional universality of its genres they produce stories that are rooted in a singular culture. This aspect highlighting the relation to the context is essential to correctly approach this type of literature. Finally its contemporary applications in the sense that its stories have always allowed communities to have fun but also to transmit codes values representations symbolic logics that are the foundation of the social cohesion of the group.
