He was a kabbalist preacher leader author and one of the most prominent judges among the Jews of Islamic countries. Named after his book - Ben Ish Hai.</p><p>Hacham Yosef Chaim was born in Baghdad to Hacham Eliyahu ben Rabbi Moshe Chaim the chief rabbi of Baghdad at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. His uncle was Hacham Abdullah ben Moshe Chaim.</p><p>On the 7th of Elul [Aug. 10 1859] his father passed away and the sage Yosef Chaim who until then had avoided standing out in public took it upon himself to lead the community of Baghdad. His leadership was not expressed by accepting an official rabbinical position but by the fact that all the difficult questions of the Halacha were brought to him and by the fact that he was demanded by the public. He delivered his first sermon on the 13th of Elul at the end of the eulogy for his father and since then he led the community of Baghdad for fifty years until the day of his death on 13th of Elul.</p><p>Rabbi Shimon Agassi was a student of Hacham Yosef Chaim he was an expert in kabbalah especially in reincarnation that he had learned from Hacham Yosef Chaim.</p><h4>Rabbi Shimon Agassi revealed to us that the neshama of Hacham Yosef Chaim was the neshama of Yosef the son of Yaakov Avinu.
