Child development has emerged as an important area of social sciences along with other scientific works. Social workers and educationists have been for a long time concerned more with child development and have contributed a great deal in focusing the attention of the people to the importance of several factors which should be taken care of in helping the children to develop fully. As a result of this exposure some of them might become more interested in developing their research competence in the area of child development and contribute later to scientific knowledge about the development of Indian children under Indian conditions. But majority of the studies have covered the psychological and other related development aspects at national level. There are not much systematic studying at micro level focusing on the issues like problems status policies and programmes and its impact and administration of child welfare. Hence the present study is intended to focus attention on the gaps left over by the earlier studies.
