<p>The Government Printing Office designated the Earl K. Long Library as a federal depository in 1963. The library began receiving documents in 1964. The University of New Orleans Library selects material from every government department and agency.<br>A hearing is a public meeting or conference of a HouseSenate joint or special committee of Congress to obtain information and opinions on proposed legislation conduct an investigation or evaluate/oversee the activities of a government department or to implement a Federal law. In addition hearings may also be purely exploratory in nature providing testimony and data about topics of current interest. Most congressional hearings are published sixty days to two years after the meeting is held.
