Overview of carbonate rocks in western DRC

About The Book

This work consists of a petrographic study of Kwilu limestone in the Lukala subgroup mined at Songololo by the Kongo cement plant (CIMKO). From a macroscopic point of view 22 boreholes were described and divided into three lithofacies. Analysis of the samples brought back to the laboratory showed diagenesis of the micrite which transforms into microsparite and sparite. The interest of this study lies in the petrographic study of the different types of lithofacies of the limestone mined and their classification in the local stratigraphic scale. The results of this work have enabled us to identify three lithofacies of light grey greenish grey and dark grey colours classified in the Bulu and Luanza formations of the Kwilu unit.
