Oxidative Stress in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

About The Book

Oxidative stress is an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants play an important role in initiation and progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is regards a chronic autoimmune disease it affects approximately 0.5-1% of the population worldwide. This book aims to evaluate effect the oxidative stress parameters on rheumatoid arthritis disease. This study involves 80 Rheumatoid arthritis patients and 30 healthy subjects as control groups. The RA group was subdivided into three subgroups depending on the activity of disease progression (low moderate and severe) according to validate scales which includes certain criteria dealing with the lifestyle of patients with this disease. The following biomarkers were measured foe each group: malondialdehyde (MDA) protein carbonyl albumin total bilirubin and uric acid. From this study it can be concluded that the oxidants are effective in whole disease progression and along diseases activity. And that proves by increasing the oxidants and decrease antioxidant along disease progression.
