Ozone is a gas found naturally and abundantly in the atmosphere whose virtue is to protect the earth's surface from ultraviolet rays. In medical terms it has antimicrobial anti-inflammatory immunostimulant and analgesic properties. It has few undesirable effects. The latter stem from its toxicity when inhaled. In fact ozone for medical purposes is considered a super-oxygen and is used in the treatment of many general pathologies particularly in dentistry. Despite the non-standardization of protocols several studies have demonstrated its efficacy in conservative dentistry endodontics periodontology and oral pathology. In this manuscript we attempt to shed light on the uses of ozone therapy in the various specialties of dentistry.
