Panopticon; Or The Inspection-House is a book by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham written between 1785 and 1791 and first published in 1791. The book lays out Bentham's concept for a new type of prison building: The Panopticon.

The design of the Panopticon allows a watchman to observe occupants without the occupants knowing whether or not they are being watched. Bentham initially conceived the Panopticon as a design for a new type of prison but later expanded its use to hospitals schools and factories. The all-seeing design was intended to serve as a means of control.

Bentham's ideas were largely influenced by the writings of the French philosopher Michel Foucault and have contributed significantly to debates about surveillance transparency and social control.

This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
