Panoramic view of the evolution of sound broadcasting in the DRC

Sound broadcasting plays an important role in global society and in the lives of individuals. Introduced in the DRC during the colonial period it has been subject to political influences ranging from restriction to democratization.The advent of democracy in the DRC (1990) and the opening up to multiparty politics are among the driving forces behind the qualitative and quantitative development of radio in the country. The creation and expansion of community radio stations is noted throughout the national territory. While providing enormous services these radio stations are experiencing some difficulties in their operation.Instead of being really at the service of the beneficiary communities these local stations tend to turn away from their noble traditional missions of informing training and entertaining following the intrusion of political actors in this media sub-sector and the low level of community participation in their operation.
