The Poet Was Born In Colon Panama March 1 1922 Of West Indian Parents Edwin And Aldith Marius A Carpenter And A Dressmaker. From Age Three He Demonstrated Talents In Art And Writing. At Age Seven He Apprenticed As A Tailor And Started Violin Lessons Until Age Sixteen.He Was Reared In Harlem’S Ghettos During The Great Depression.He Started College At Lincoln University Pennsylvania And Enlisted In The Army From 1942 To 1946. His Overseas Service Was In The South Pacific Philippines And Japan. He Completed His College Education At Lincoln University In 1948. He Worked As A Tailor In New York City From 1948 To 1950. In 1950 He Entered Howard University Medical School Graduating In 1954. He Studied Surgery At Fresno County Hospital And Stanford Medical Center.He Was An Original Member Of The First Open Heart Surgery Team In Fresno Which Began At Children'S Hospital In 1960. He Is Still Working With The Heart Surgery Teams Of Saint Agnes And Fresno Heart Hospitals In Fresno California. He Is The Father Of Four Boys And One Girl.He Is A Practicing Christian Active In Bible Teaching Seminars Workshops And Speaking.
