The pastoral practices of mobile livestock farming enshrined in transhumance nomadism and the Agdal system reflect the history and sensitivity of the pastoral activity rooted in the forested mountains of the Moroccan Atlas. Until the beginning of the 20th century the social groups and pastoral communities occupying the wooded areas and exploiting their resources according to a founding logic of consolidation of their community identity and legitimacy of occupation of their territory. This local knowledge deserves to be maintained and nurtured by the emergence of new approaches to payment for ecosystem services in a socio-ecological context marked by global changes.
