Before the 74 days of Argentine occupation 2000 Kelpers lived in the Falkland Falklands many of them descendants of the 1000 who populated the Islands in 1850. Today they are still on the Islands and have been joined by 3000 British Marines who live in a military base 80 km from the capital called by the locals Port Stanley and by Argentina Puerto Argentino. The British military are not allowed to visit Puerto Stanley Puerto Argentina. The author founder of the Asociación Civil Amigos de Malvinas Falkland visited the Islands and interviewed 50 civilian leaders of the community. As a European resident in the Rio de la Plata and mostly in Argentina since 1938 he recounts his experiences of his dialogue with those who proudly call themselves Kelpers.
