Peace Manoeuvres

The story is set in the fictional town of Peaceville New York. The town is inhabited by wealthy Americans who are bored with their lives. One day a man named Charles the Bold decides to organize a mock war in order to give the townspeople something to do.The Bold divides the townspeople into two teams: the reds and the blues. He then creates a series of elaborate rules for the war. The war is to be fought with Nerf balls and water balloons and no one is allowed to get hurt.The war begins and the townspeople quickly become engrossed in it. They build forts dig trenches and strategize about how to defeat the enemy. The war is a lot of fun and it helps to relieve the boredom of the townspeople.However the war eventually becomes too much for some of the townspeople. They start to take the war too seriously and they begin to argue and fight with each other. The Bold realizes that the war is getting out of hand and he decides to end it.The Bold declares a truce and the townspeople gather together for a peace feast. They realize that they have been foolish to take the war so seriously and they vow to never do it again.Peace Manoeuvres is a satirical story that criticizes the frivolousness and boredom of the wealthy American class. It is also a cautionary tale about the dangers of taking war too lightly.
