This research arises from a concern about knowledge and practices in teaching Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in the final years of primary school in the context of a school run by the Department of Education in the municipality of Carutapera in the state of Maranhão. We are currently witnessing an exponential increase in cases of repetition and evasion on the part of students who are finding it difficult to socialize and be included in activities in the social environment. As a result it is necessary to look at what alternatives can be applied to these adults so that they remain motivated at school. Thus describing the contributions of pedagogical knowledge to the skills and abilities needed for teaching and learning in youth and adult education is of great relevance to our municipality and the state of Maranhão as well as to the country itself.
