perception of environmental degradation in Owando

About The Book

The ignorance that the populations have on natural risks makes that these last ones occupy more and more the grounds in zones where the manifestations of the aforementioned natural phenomena are daily or recurring such as: the alluvial plains the sides of the slopes the bottom of the slopes... Thus we note that 46% of the respondents do not know what a natural hazard is 29% have no opinion and only 25% have knowledge of what a natural hazard is. The city of Owando has an average density of 2000 inhabitants per square kilometer and its rapid expansion towards the marshy and flood-prone areas of the Loussa plain located to the south and southeast exposes the population to the risk of flooding. Only one main road out of five is equipped with sewerage works but these are also for the most part undersized and unable to collect all the runoff water. With each major rainfall we notice the overflowing of water from these gutters.
