About The Book

The increasing demand for non-invasive surgical operations has made the use of Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs) as part of medical procedures highly attractive. Essential elements of implantable devices are embedded in such systems which enable the exchange of data between implantable devices and external environment. So Miniaturized antennas for implantable medical devices (IMDs) are on high demand for nowadays. This book presents a standard design of an implantable meander line antenna (MLA) for biomedical applications in the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) 3.1-10.6 GHz. The proposed antenna is meandered characterize and a good resonant performance inside human tissue. The designed antenna is integrated with the electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure based ground plane to enhance the performance. The proposed antenna with EGB ground plane is designed for both the simplified model and anatomical realistic models for the human body and executed the performance in bio-environment. To approve the results of implantable antennas more correctly simulation is analyzed using anatomical realistic human models. All the simulation results and measurements are obtained from CST Microwave Studio.
