Performance of Aphidophagous Syrphids in a multitrophic context

About The Book

Syrphids (hoverflies) are one of the most interesting insects among many insect species. Some of those are very common and we can find them almost everywhere (urban areas agricultural fields gardens and etc). Many people assume them as bees because of colorful pattern on their abdomen. However there are some reasons to prove the attractiveness of this group of insects: Firstly many species are attractive because of colorful and shining patterns. Secondly many of them are carnivorous at the larval stage and feed on other insects specially aphids. Thirdly their adults are very helpful in pollination of plants. There are lots of publications on biology of syrphids but a few focus exactly on the multi-trophic aspects of their biology. In this book I tried to provide some clue that may be helpful for us to have a better conception for using them in our biological control plans to suppressing aphid pest.
