The structure of the poems are elegantly written as a narrative to take a person on an emotional journey of heartfelt experiences. The poems follow a random serendipitous sequence ranging from serious to soft spoken reverence of mental health conditions.

Some of the poems shed light on the hard edges of the modern world leading to complex states of the mind and mental health problems such as addiction instability childhood trauma feelings of inadequacy self-doubt self-pity depression states of anxiety empathy anger envy trust anguish confusion broken promises forgiveness growth and development of the resurrection of beauty self-growth and love. As a mental health care professional she began to write poetry about the complexities people face in relationships work life internal conflicts within one's own mind while holding on to knowledge that healing comes from processing the thoughts emotions and feelings associated within each individual's own belief and value system. She titled her book Petal to the Mental instead of the well known published phrase Petal to the Metal to depict the softness of a rose petal as a reference to being gentle with one's mental state and sense of self as one progresses through difficult life challenges and emotional conflicts. Through rhetoric writing she desires to bring hope and healing through her poetry.
