Phenomics and identification of QTLs for root traits in rice

About The Book

The root system in plants is a difficult region to study as it is located underground which acts as a physical barrier. This book presents a quick and non-destructive methodology for evaluating roots in plants with reliable results using a scanner. Using this methodology it was possible to phenotype a large number of genotypes-phenomics-that make up Embrapa's core collection for drought tolerance making it an important source for root research on these materials. A segregating population was also phenotyped using this methodology and subsequently genotyped using DNA chips to find regions in the upland rice chromosome that control root traits.
