Nicholas Rescher refugeed to the U.S. from Nazi Germany in 1938 at the age of ten and found a niche there as a philosophy professor in a circuitous route via service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War followed by a stint as think-tank researcher at the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica CA. In due course he became a prolific contributor to philosophical research and served as president of several major philosophical societies including the American Philosophical Association the American Catholic Philosophical Association the Metaphysical Society of America and the American Leibniz Society. The present book gives a detailed account of his personal development and professional dealings throughout these endeavors. This is a revised and augmented edition.
