Physical And Kinematical Studies On Moving Stellar Clusters

About The Book

The present book deals with studying of the moving open stellar clusters which are physically related groups of stars held together by mutual gravitational attraction. Therefore they populate a limited region of space typically much smaller than their distance from us so that they are all roughly at the same distance. This type of work was and still useful in the studies of Galactic structure in understanding the chemical evolution of the Galaxy and in the determination of the population I distance scale. Determination of the basic parameters of moving clusters (vertex velocity distance absolute magnitudes … etc.) was presented with its error analysis. Application was carried out on Hyades cluster as an example for typical open cluster. The velocity ellipsoid parameters are shown analytically using vectors and matrices analyses. A general computational algorithm for the basic parameters from the exact solutions of the equations involved was used. Correlations between these kinematical properties (i.e. velocity ellipsoid parameters) with physical one (i.e. spectral types) were studied.
