Physical education from the perspective of ethnic-racial relations

About The Book

One of the great achievements of black people in Brazil was the enactment of Law 10.639/2003 which in turn amended Law 9.394/1996 (the National Guidelines and Bases Law - LDB) making it compulsory to teach “Afro-Brazilian and indigenous history and culture” in the basic education curriculum throughout the country. We should also point out that Law 10.639/03 also applies to higher education institutions as stated in CNE/CP opinion 3/2004 of March 10 2004. In any case in order for the legislation to actually be implemented from a practical point of view it is necessary for schools and universities to have professionals with specific training to deal with the issue. The main aim of our work was to investigate whether there are any subjects that include Education for Ethnic and Racial Relations in Physical Education degree courses at universities and colleges in the Recife Metropolitan Region.
